Episode 26 | ADHD-Friendly Advent Day 3

December 2, 2025 ·

Welcome to Day 3 of our ADHD-friendly Advent study! You are NOT behind if you’re just joining us – no one is ever behind here. This series is designed by an ADHDer for women with ADHD and anyone seeking an authentic, low-pressure way to celebrate Advent while navigating seasons of waiting, uncertainty, or refining fire.

Today we’re in Luke 1:8-20, diving into Zechariah’s encounter with the angel Gabriel and the announcement of John the Baptist’s birth. We explore what it means when our expectations of God’s deliverance don’t match His actual plan, the importance of aligning our hopes with God’s will (not our wishes), and how God confirms His promises time and again.

This week’s song is still “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” – and a special shoutout to the commenter who mentioned Skillet just released a version! Go listen to it (so good for us emo kids at heart!). The melancholy melody mixed with hopeful lyrics perfectly captures the tension of Advent: sorrow and joy, waiting and hope.

It’s designed to be accessible and flexible, with:

– Guided daily Scripture passages

– A simple prayer to invite God in and ask for fresh eyes

– Journaling prompts like:

• What emotions does “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” stir up in you?

• What memories of Christmas are most impactful for you?

• What does Advent mean to you?

• Where has God granted a request of yours? What was that “yes” like?

– A suggested schedule you can follow or completely ignore – no guilt either way

In today’s episode, I share personal stories about:

– The darkest Christmas season of my life (2021) after becoming a single mom overnight

– How God’s deliverance looked nothing like I expected—but was more beautiful than I imagined

– How God confirmed my current marriage and what that “yes” has meant for my faith and confidence in hearing from Him

If you’re in a season where God’s provision looks different than you hoped, or you’re waiting for answers that feel delayed, you are in the right place. This is a space for honest wrestling, real life, and anchoring to the hope of Jesus – not after everything is perfect, but in the middle of the mess.

Meet Rachel

Meet Rachel
hello!

Hi! I'm Rachel. I'm a saved-and-redeemed Jesus lover, mama to one bio and two step kiddos, business owner, enneagram 7, and creative enthusiast. My motherhood journey abruptly became single motherhood when my son was 4 months old. It's been the hardest yet most fulfilling experience I've ever had. Motherhood, while beautiful, is often brutal, and single motherhood is in a league of its own. Whether you're a single mother by choice or by force, whether you're already on your own with your kiddos, sharing a home with a distant or absent parent, or gearing up to take on the challenge of single motherhood in the future, this is a space for you. You'll find resources on everything from navigating toxic relationships to creating your first budget to how to pursue self-employment for extra cash. My email inbox is always open if you have questions or need encouragement: rachel@rachelgrit.com You are so welcome here, sister.

My 4 favorite tools for studying the bible (all li My 4 favorite tools for studying the bible (all linked in my Amazon storefront!):
✨Wide margin bible - I use the NLT because I like the wide margins and white pages. I use multiple translations for study but like this format for notetaking and bible journaling.
✨Pilot fine-point pens - these are PERFECT for making clean, legible notes in even the tiniest of spaces. I fell in love with these while living in Guatemala and STILL special order them!
✨Mildliner highlighters - these are the BEST. They have all kinds of lovely, soft colors that look beautiful on the page. I have a whole color-coding system using these - details on my Youtube channel!
✨Dot-grid journal - I adore dot grid because it makes everything from note-taking to drawing easier. I use this as my prayer journal, notebook, regular journal ... just about everything.
