It is day 14 of our ADHD friendly advent study.
Speaker A:If you are just finding us, know you are not behind.
Speaker A:This entire study is designed to work with the brain God gave you, not against it.
Speaker A:And it is also designed to be low effort and high impact.
Speaker A:So this is going to be a real quick video to just let you know the scripture that you need to read and then read you the journaling prompts.
Speaker A:Everything is laid out in a free workbook that I put together that you can download at the link in my profile.
Speaker A:And I'm really glad that you're here.
Speaker A:Okay, let's get started.
Speaker A:But also, if you're seeing my face for the first time, my name is Rachel.
Speaker A:I'm an ADHDer and a Jesus lover.
Speaker A:And I help women with chaotic brains seek, find and live the abundant life that Jesus offers us.
Speaker A:Okay, today's reading, we are on day 14 of Advent.
Speaker A:We are reading the entire scripture passage for the week.
Speaker A:There is a suggested schedule in the workbook.
Speaker A:If your brain works well with structure.
Speaker A:If it doesn't, you are free to do it in whatever structure suits you or all in one go, or pick and choose, whatever, whatever you want.
Speaker A:It is low effort, high impact.
Speaker A:So the passage we'll be reading today is Luke 1:39 through 80.
Speaker A:So strap in.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:I am reading out of the esv.
Speaker A:In those days, Mary arose and went with haste to the hill country, to a town in Judah.
Speaker A:And she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
Speaker A:And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:And she exclaimed with a loud cry, blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
Speaker A:And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Speaker A:For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
Speaker A:And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.
Speaker A:And Mary said, my soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices.
Speaker A:And God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
Speaker A:For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.
Speaker A:For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Speaker A:And his mercy is for those who fear him.
Speaker A:From generation to generation, he has shown great strength with his arm he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
Speaker A:He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate.
Speaker A:He has Filled the hungry with good things and the rich he has sent away empty.
Speaker A:He has helped his servant Israel in the remembrance of his mercy as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his offspring forever.
Speaker A:And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.
Speaker A:Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.
Speaker A:And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her.
Speaker A:And they rejoiced with her.
Speaker A:And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child.
Speaker A:And they would have called him Zechariah, after his father, but his mother answered, no, he shall be called John.
Speaker A:And they said to her, none of your relatives is called by this name.
Speaker A:And they made signs to his father, inquiring what they wanted him to be called.
Speaker A:And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, his name is John.
Speaker A:And they all wondered.
Speaker A:And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke.
Speaker A:Blessing God and fear came on all their neighbors.
Speaker A:And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea.
Speaker A:And all who heard them laid them up in their hearts saying, what then will this child be?
Speaker A:For the hand of the Lord was with him.
Speaker A:And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying, blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us, to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath that he swore to our father Abraham to grant us, that we being delivered from the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
Speaker A:And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High.
Speaker A:For you will go before the Lord to prepar his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people and the forgiveness of their sins because of their tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Speaker A:And the child grew and became strong in spirit.
Speaker A:And he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
Speaker A:I don't know about you, but I need a sip of coffee after that.
Speaker A:Now, typically I kind of go into detail and talk about my answers to the scripture, journaling, prompts but today I'm going to try to keep it really short.
Speaker A:So I'm just going to read to you today's journaling prompt, which is bonus journaling prompt number one.
Speaker A:Again, all of this is in the workbook, which is free.
Speaker A:You can download that at the link.
Speaker A:So this journaling prompt is, what attribute of God do you see reflected in this week's scripture passage?
Speaker A:See extra resource number two for a list and explanation of his attributes, if you need a refresher.
Speaker A:So in the workbook there is a link to a list of the attributes of God, kind of like the finalized list, what we kind of use as a reference list for the characteristics of God.
Speaker A:And so you can get that at the link in my profile as well.
Speaker A:But what I would love for you to do during this time, pause the video and then, well, we'll just, I'll end it here.
Speaker A:So it's nice and short and you can just get to it.
Speaker A:I do recommend you using a physical journal for this part, for this portion.
Speaker A:Oh my gosh.
Speaker A:There is a lot of research about how good writing is for our brains.
Speaker A:However, if you don't have the spoons for that today, that's totally fine.
Speaker A:You can also type out an answer, record an answer on a voice memo, whether that's in your voice notes or to a friend.
Speaker A:Type something out in your text notes you can text yourself.
Speaker A:That's a really good hack that I have found that helps a lot with my adhd.
Speaker A:Or you can even just sit and think for, for a little bit.
Speaker A:So if you need to hear the prompt again, you can rewind the video.
Speaker A:Otherwise I'm going to leave it there.
Speaker A:I want to let you know that all of these videos are uploaded as podcast episodes, so if you need to kind of catch up all in one go, there is a playlist for my podcast of these advent videos specifically.
Speaker A:So you can find all of that at the link in my profile.
Speaker A:It's all there, nicely laid out, and I will see you in the next one.
Speaker A:Bye.
