Here on day 21 of our ADHD Friendly Advent study.
Speaker A:And if you are just joining us, even though Advent is like only four more days, you are not behind.
Speaker A:The study is designed to be low effort and high impact specifically for ADHD brains, so we can work with the brain that God gave us, not against it.
Speaker A:If you would like to get caught up on the other days of Advent, all of these videos are here on TikTok or they are uploaded as podcast episodes.
Speaker A:My podcast is the True Grit Podcast with Rachel Grit and you can find links to everything including the free workbook I created to guide you through the entire process or over in the link in my profile.
Speaker A:So let's go ahead and get started.
Speaker A:Today we're just reading the entire scripture passage that we've been breaking up over week three.
Speaker A:We will be reading that together.
Speaker A:And then the journaling prompt is about looking for the attribute of God that we see exemplified most in the scripture passage.
Speaker A:So something I would actually recommend is taking a moment to go and read a list of the attributes of God.
Speaker A:There is one linked in the workbook which again is free, that is over at the link in my profile, so you can click that if you want to read that one.
Speaker A:There is kind of like a formalized list of attributes.
Speaker A:We're not just going okay, you know, God is blah blah blah.
Speaker A:And then using that, there are actual like formalized attributes of God that are kind of formally recognized.
Speaker A:So I would like for you to read that before we dive in today.
Speaker A:Or you can just listen while I read them to you.
Speaker A:So there are 15 core attributes of God.
Speaker A:That he is infinite, that he is immutable, so he doesn't change.
Speaker A:That he is self sufficient, so he is not reliant on anyone.
Speaker A:That is exactly what it sounds like.
Speaker A:And there are all kinds of pop ups that just showed up on the article that I'm reading.
Speaker A:Fantastic.
Speaker A:God is self sufficient, so he has no needs that he is not able to address Himself.
Speaker A:He is omnipotent, which means all powerful.
Speaker A:He's omniscient.
Speaker A:We're all knowing.
Speaker A:He is omnipresent, present everywhere, all the time.
Speaker A:He is wise, he is faithful.
Speaker A:He is good.
Speaker A:He is just.
Speaker A:Which actually his justice is a little different from how we think of justice, especially with a Western mindset, which is fascinating and a topic I'm very, very interested in right now.
Speaker A:But I will save you the rant on that one.
Speaker A:He is merciful, he is gracious.
Speaker A:He is loving.
Speaker A:He is holy.
Speaker A:He is glorious.
Speaker A:So Those are the 15 core attributes of God.
Speaker A:So keep those in mind as you are listening to today's scripture and kind of see which one matches with the Scripture, and I'll share mine at the very end.
Speaker A:So we are in Luke 2, starting in verse one, going through 32, I'm reading out of the ESV.
Speaker A:In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
Speaker A:This was the first registration while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
Speaker A:And all went to be registered, each to his own town.
Speaker A:And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
Speaker A:And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.
Speaker A:And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Speaker A:And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field keeping watch over their flock by night.
Speaker A:And an angel of the Lord appeared to them.
Speaker A:And the glory of the Lord shone around them.
Speaker A:And they were filled with great fear.
Speaker A:And the angel said to them, fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Speaker A:For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior who is Christ the Lord.
Speaker A:And this will be a sign for you.
Speaker A:You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
Speaker A:And suddenly there was with the angels a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace among those with whom he is pleased.
Speaker A:When the angels went away from them into heaven, as the shepherds said to one another, let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.
Speaker A:And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in a manger.
Speaker A:And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told to them concerning this child.
Speaker A:And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds had told them.
Speaker A:But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Speaker A:And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen as it had been told to them.
Speaker A:And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Speaker A:And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
Speaker A:As it is written in the law of the Lord, every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the lord.
Speaker A:A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.
Speaker A:Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel.
Speaker A:And the Holy Spirit was upon him, and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Speaker A:And he came in the Spirit into the temple.
Speaker A:And when the parents took in the child Jesus to do for him according to the custom of the law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace according to your word.
Speaker A:For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people, Israel.
Speaker A:I actually did that in one go.
Speaker A:Normally those take me a take or two, but that is this week's entire Scripture passage.
Speaker A:So what I'd like to encourage you to do now is break out your journal and kind of think about what attribute of God you most saw exemplified in this passage.
Speaker A:You can get out your Bible again if you need to, but I will read here the specific prompt from the actual actual workbook in case it's handy to have like a formalized prompt for you.
Speaker A:My brain does really well with with rules and so actually knowing okay, here's the question that I need to answer is helpful to me.
Speaker A:So in case we're the same way, I will read you the prompt which all of the prompts for all of the days and all of the weeks are in one consolidated place there in the workbook that again is free that you can download at the link in my bio.
Speaker A:But the journaling prompt is as follows.
Speaker A:What attribute do you see reflected in this week's scripture passages?
Speaker A:See Extra Resource Number two for a list and explanation of his attributes if you need a refresher.
Speaker A:So what I would really love for you to do is break out your physical journal.
Speaker A:If that doesn't feel accessible, or if writing by hand just doesn't feel like something you have the energy for today, that is totally fine.
Speaker A:You can also type something out, whether that's in your notes app or to a friend on your computer in an email.
Speaker A:Whatever the case may Be.
Speaker A:If even that feels a little excessive, you can do a voice memo, either in your voice notes or a voice memo to a friend.
Speaker A:And if even that just isn't something you have the spoons for today, that is fine as well.
Speaker A:We are all about finding solutions that match with our energy levels and what we kind of have accessible for the day.
Speaker A:So if you even just need to kind of sit and think through the prompt, that is absolutely fine as well.
Speaker A:You will still glean something here.
Speaker A:So pause the video here, go answer the prompt, and however you plan to do that, and then come back when you're done.
Speaker A:All right, Just in case you didn't actually do it yet, here's your second chance to pause and go do the journaling prompt.
Speaker A:But we are going to go ahead and get through it.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:So the.
Speaker A:The attribute of God that I most saw in this week's passage was faithful.
Speaker A:He is so incredibly faithful.
Speaker A:And this passage, I think it's so unassuming, the part where Jesus is born, right?
Speaker A:It's just kind of like, okay, well, they were on their way to Bethlehem.
Speaker A:Oh, and then Mary gave birth, okay, and so then there were shepherds.
Speaker A:And it's.
Speaker A:It's like this huge moment, this huge promise is fulfilled.
Speaker A:And it's just, it comes and goes with little fanfare, which is kind of a really good illustration of Jesus life in general.
Speaker A:You know, he was, he was so unassuming, despite being the king of not just the Earth, but, you know, the entire universe was born in a stable and, you know, lived in this time where his impact was kind of localized.
Speaker A:And only after his death and resurrection was, you know, his story able to kind of infiltrate and permeate the Earth.
Speaker A:And this is just so.
Speaker A:It's just, okay, here's what happened.
Speaker A:It's just this little blip, this little moment.
Speaker A:But what this little moment does is fulfill, you know, all of this, right?
Speaker A:This moment of Jesus birth fulfills all of the promises, things that God has been.
Speaker A:Has been planning and promising and encouraging his people to wait for.
Speaker A:Obviously, there are things I shouldn't say.
Speaker A:It fulfills everything in the first part of Scripture, because I do not know for a fact that every single promise, every single prophecy has been fulfilled yet.
Speaker A:But, but the point is that God is so faithful to complete his promises.
Speaker A:And so what I wrote in response to this prompt was, I see God's faithfulness in Luke 2:1 32.
Speaker A:God has stayed faithful to his original plan, desires and promises.
Speaker A:And here we see a major, if not the main promise fulfilled he sees through to completion what he undertakes.
Speaker A:He has never and will never leave a promise incomplete.
Speaker A:And that is so encouraging for me.
Speaker A:Um, this.
Speaker A:This season has been a really difficult one.
Speaker A:Um, and yet one where I've also seen God's faithfulness so incredibly clearly.
Speaker A:And so I love reading through this passage today and seeing how even his grandest promises can be fulfilled in a single moment.
Speaker A:And that's so encouraging to me.
Speaker A:We know that we serve a God who wins in the end.
Speaker A:We know that he is working all things together for our good.
Speaker A:For the good.
Speaker A:For the good of those who love him and who are called.
Speaker A:Called according to his purpose.
Speaker A:And while his definition of good does not always match ours, it is always going to be so incredibly beautiful, so incredibly fulfilling, so incredibly purposeful.
Speaker A:And he will not leave a single detail unattended to final week of Advent.
Speaker A:And it's not even a full week because we get into Christmas, I think, like three or four days in.
Speaker A:So next week is going to be a very short week of Advent.
Speaker A:But we will still be doing a new study every single day.
Speaker A:And there will be a new video to correspond with that as well.
Speaker A:Well as that video being uploaded as a podcast episode.
Speaker A:If you are more of an audio gal.
Speaker A:So whatever works best with your brain.
Speaker A:If you're a video, I got you.
Speaker A:If you prefer audio, I got you.
Speaker A:If you just want to work through the workbook on your own, I got you.
Speaker A:Everything is available to you for free.
Speaker A:So make sure you go download the workbook that is in the link in my profile.
Speaker A:It's also really helpful if you could share this video, if you could give it a repost, send it to a friend, tag a friend in it, whatever needs to happen.
Speaker A:And I would love to see you in tomorrow's video.
Speaker A:Bye.
