We’re diving into Day 10 of our ADHD Friendly Advent Study, and let me tell you, it’s not just about checking off a box—it’s about engaging deeply, even when our brains feel chaotic. I’m Rachel, your fellow ADHDer and Jesus follower, here to guide you as we explore what it means to live the abundant life Jesus offers. If you’re feeling behind, don’t worry, this study is designed to be low effort and high impact, making it accessible for all of us. Today, we’re focusing on Mary’s song of praise, and I want to challenge us to reflect on what our own praises sound like in various seasons of our lives. We are on day 10 of our ADHD Friendly Advent Study.
Speaker A:If this is your first time seeing my face, my name is Rachel, I'm an ADHDer and a Jesus follower and I help women with chaotic brains seek, find and live the abundant life that Jesus offers.
Speaker A:We are on day 10 of our advent Bible study that is specifically geared toward ADHD brains.
Speaker A:It is low effort, it is high impact, and no, you are not behind.
Speaker A:There's a free workbook that I've created that you can download at the link over on my profile, so I really hope if this is your first time, that you will join us.
Speaker A:These videos are also uploaded as podcasts, so if you're more of an audio kind of a gal, that option is available to you too.
Speaker A:All right, let's dig in.
Speaker A:But real quick, let's pause for the just stunning Christmas scenery in my backyard.
Speaker A:We've got the snow, we've got the snowman, we've got the dogs.
Speaker A:Well, there's another dog somewhere and they were playing a second ago.
Speaker A:It is a quintessential Christmas Day right now.
Speaker A:So let's go ahead and dig in again.
Speaker A:Make sure you have your workbook ready to go.
Speaker A:If you do not have the workbook, though if you don't want the workbook, that is totally fine.
Speaker A:I will walk you through the suggested schedule for today.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker A:But it is also designed to be very free flowing, so you can do, if you prefer to just kind of like get it all done in one day and think about it.
Speaker A:The workbook is set up to accommodate that.
Speaker A:Or if you like a little bit more structure, that is also totally fine.
Speaker A:That structure is available in the workbook.
Speaker A:But we will go through the scripture for today and then we will go through the journaling prompt for today.
Speaker A:Before we get started, I want to encourage you to go and listen to this week's song again.
Speaker A:Each week we are doing a different Christmas song or hymn or carol.
Speaker A:And this week's is oh come all ye faith faithful.
Speaker A:I really like the Shane and Shane version.
Speaker A:So pause here, go listen to the song and then come on back here.
Speaker A:Now jumping right into the scripture, we are in Luke 1, starting in verse 46, going through 56 and I am reading out of the ESV and Mary said, my soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
Speaker A:For he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
Speaker A:For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.
Speaker A:For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Speaker A:And his mercy is for those who fear Him.
Speaker A:From generation to generation he has shown strength with his arm.
Speaker A:He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
Speaker A:He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate.
Speaker A:He has filled the hungry with good things and the rich he has sent away empty.
Speaker A:He has helped his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy.
Speaker A:And he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his offspring forever.
Speaker A:And Mary remained with her who's Elizabeth, about three months and returned to her home.
Speaker A:This passage of Scripture Mary's song of praise is also called the Magnificat and fun fact.
Speaker A:My parents actually met at the ballet Magnificat.
Speaker A:So that's like a fun little Rachel trivia fact.
Speaker A:I suppose so.
Speaker A:That said, let's go ahead and talk about today's Scripture journaling prompt throughout this study, every week there are some song journaling prompts and there are a couple scripture journaling prompts.
Speaker A:And you can either break out your journal.
Speaker A:This is what I recommend.
Speaker A:This is what I do.
Speaker A:I love writing things down.
Speaker A:It helps our brains process.
Speaker A:It helps our brains remember.
Speaker A:Writing is very, very good for you.
Speaker A:But also if you are driving or whatever the case may be and are listening to this or you just don't have the bandwidth, I totally understand not having the spoons to do something in a day.
Speaker A:If you want to just sit and kind of ponder these questions, that is also an option for you.
Speaker A:So whatever is going to be accessible for you.
Speaker A:Today, we're going for progress, not perfection.
Speaker A:And let's go ahead and get into it.
Speaker A:We're on Scripture journaling prompt number three, which is what does your praise sound like right now?
Speaker A:If you're in a joyful season, is your praise as loud as your joy?
Speaker A:And if you're in a dark season, does your praise drown out the voices of doubt, negativity, and fear?
Speaker A:So pause here, go grab your journal, answer this prompt, kind of do some thinking, do some digging, and then come back here when you are done.
Speaker A:And I do recommend before, I probably should have put this in the beginning of the video.
Speaker A:But before I dig into Scripture, before I start my quiet time, I like to take a moment to settle my spirit and invite God in.
Speaker A:I like to ask him to open my heart and my mind, to show me what he has for me to learn and know and how to carry out his will.
Speaker A:Today I ask him to kind of quiet my voice so that all that I hear is his.
Speaker A:And so that's a really, really powerful way to kick off your quiet time.
Speaker A:So I would strongly recommend doing that if you have not already.
Speaker A:All right, now that you've had some time to do your journaling prompt, come on back to me if you haven't done it yet, seriously, pause, rewind the video, listen to the prompt, and then go do it and then come back.
Speaker A:But for those of you who are finished, I'm going to share a little bit about, you know, what this spoke to my heart today and what I kind of realized.
Speaker A:Because even though I'm the one who wrote these questions, the I'm going through them and doing them in real time right alongside you, just like I am seeing it for the first time.
Speaker A:And, you know, seeing as God is the one who guided the creation of this study, unsurprisingly, I am also kind of having some hard truths shared with me.
Speaker A:And God is kind of using these questions and the scripture and this study overall to kind of feed me some thoughts and things that I needed.
Speaker A:And I realized, going through this journaling prompt today, that my, my praise really isn't as loud as it could be.
Speaker A:I'm very vocal about the fact that I have been in a pretty difficult season for about four and a half years now and that we're While it looks like it is coming to a close, nothing is really certain yet.
Speaker A:kitty cat, a snake, and about:Speaker A:I think we have 12 birds in the shed back there.
Speaker A:We've got some chickens and ducks.
Speaker A:But I also feel like there's a bit of a lack of depth there and I'm feeling convicted about the fact that I am not praising God as completely or as loudly as I could be.
Speaker A:And so I what I'm feeling challenged to do today is to put more of a focus on not even just internally, but outwardly.
Speaker A:You know, this is a platform that I really enjoy creating content on that I started to build like a little, a little community on.
Speaker A:And so I like to share where I'm at in the process on this platform.
Speaker A:It is not perfect.
Speaker A:It is not polished.
Speaker A:A lot of these videos are very off the cuff.
Speaker A:If you are looking for more polished content, my podcast would be the place to find that.
Speaker A:This is a little bit more informal where I Can be a little bit more real and raw, always authentic.
Speaker A:But this is definitely a less polished version.
Speaker A:If that's what you're.
Speaker A:That's what you're looking for.
Speaker A:But I am feeling convicted to be more loud about my praise and more like, articulate it a little bit better.
Speaker A:And so what I want to start doing is every morning making a little video on here about something that I am grateful for or a way that God has shown up for me.
Speaker A:Because not only is that me speaking my praise into existence, not only is that me glorifying God with my mouth, but it's also sharing his praise and proclaiming his glory to the world.
Speaker A:And while I by no means have a large platform, I've gotten a lot of comments and messages from people saying that my content has impacted them.
Speaker A:And so if my praise, if me being more intentional with my praise can have a positive impact on even one person while glorifying God in the process, that works for me.
Speaker A:So that is what I am going to do starting today.
Speaker A:So I am excited to be doing that.
Speaker A:The goal is going to be every morning, maybe even before I make this video, because I'm making a video for each day of Advent to go along with the study.
Speaker A:It all correlates.
Speaker A:Gonna start with a video praising God for something specific.
Speaker A:So kind of a mix.
Speaker A:If you're more of like a vaguely spiritual person or spiritual person, you're like, oh, gratitude, that's great.
Speaker A:Sure, call it gratitude.
Speaker A:But I am going to be focusing on praising God for what he has done and what he has given me in my life.
Speaker A:And I would encourage you to join me.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:That I think is the shortest video we've done in like actual study video this entire Advent season.
Speaker A:So with that being said, make sure you hit the follow button so you see my face again.
Speaker A:Also, share this with a friend.
Speaker A:It's helpful to me if you share it on your stories or in your DMs or in your texts, wherever the case may be.
Speaker A:You can also download these as podcast episodes over in the link on my profile.
Speaker A:Also make sure you grab the workbook.
Speaker A:That is going to be very, very helpful to you.
Speaker A:And that's you can either print it out or complete it right on your phone.
Speaker A:It's in a Google Doc format, so you'll just make a little copy of it and then you can do the work right inside the Google Doc while you are on the go.
Speaker A:So with that being said, thank you so much for being here and I'll see you in tomorrow's video Bye.
